Lamay Island's Souvenir Series

Brand Packaging Design

From the off-shore island of Taiwan, fishers’ hometown—Lamay Island (Siao iouciou), in the area of sea, fresh yellowfin tunas are fished up. Make yellowfin tunas as dried fish and fish sticks which are excellent local snacks able to be shared with close friends and fit for the first choice of souvenir. The design of graph connecting with local scenery—Stone Vase as main visual image magnifies local features and images.

The Lamay Island's Souvenir Series, designed by Chia-Hui Lien and Jen-Wei Huang, is a unique brand packaging design that captures the essence of Lamay Island's marine culture. Inspired by the fresh yellowfin tunas fished from the surrounding sea, the designers have created a series of dried fish and fish sticks that serve as excellent local snacks and perfect souvenirs.

What sets this packaging design apart is its attention to detail and functionality. The zipper bag design ensures that the dried fish remains fresh, preserving its taste and quality. Additionally, the pack features a magnetic cover, providing consumers with the option to send it as a gift. Once the dried fish is consumed, the pack can be repurposed as a storage box, promoting the idea of environmental protection and recycling.

The design of the packaging box is visually appealing, with a graph connecting to the local scenery of Lamay Island. The main visual image of a Stone Vase magnifies the local features and images, creating a strong connection between the product and its place of origin.

The realization of this design involves a combination of visual and packaging design. The gift box is made using paper and magnets for the opening design. The printing technology incorporates a special color - bronze gold, and the graphics on the box surface use the technology of partial bright film to enhance the texture of the gift box. This attention to detail adds to the overall aesthetic appeal and quality of the packaging.

The Lamay Island's Souvenir Series gift boxes will be available for sale on December 1, 2019, exclusively on Lamay Island, Taiwan. The design team, consisting of Chia-Hui Lien and Jen-Wei Huang, conducted extensive research and field trips to Xiaoliuqiu Island in Taiwan to gather inspiration and incorporate the marine culture and local cultural history into the overall brand packaging design. The result is a design that not only promotes market sales but also contributes to the preservation and celebration of the island's unique heritage.

This design has received recognition for its creativity and ingenuity. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Packaging Design category in 2022. The award acknowledges designs that demonstrate outstanding technical and creative skills, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology. The Lamay Island's Souvenir Series packaging design is a testament to the designers' commitment to excellence and their contribution to improving the quality of life through innovative design.
